How to Maintain Facelift Results

After a facelift surgery, the skin and soft tissue underneath the face and neck are lifted and appear rejuvenated. This result can last many years, and even longer than you think with just a few maintenance tips and tricks.

Here are some ways to maintain your youthful appearance after a facelift:

First of all, be good to your skin. Most importantly, protect it from the sun with mineral sunblock and a good skin care routine. There are many great skin care lines out there that do the job. I like to remember the A, B, C’s: A is vitamin A, also known as tretinoin or a retinoid; B is for Block – a mineral sun block; and C is for vitamin C. Also, take care of your facelift results, your skin, and your body by not smoking.

Here are some additional maintenance strategies to ensure the longevity of your facelift result:

Routine BOTOX® Cosmetic or Dysport® treatments every 3-4 months can help prevent new lines from forming. Botulinum toxin (the primary ingredient in BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport® solutions) can also prevent over-activity of muscles like the platysma in the neck that can make the vertical bands in the neck reappear over time.

Ultherapy®, which is a non-invasive ultrasound-based treatment, can also help to maintain the tightness of the skin in the face and neck and stimulate collagen formation. Ultherapy® treatment can be done about once a year after facelift surgery to help maintain the skin tightness.

As we age, in addition to the effects of gravity, volume loss can contribute to the appearance of aging. Replenishing this volume with judicious use of dermal filler injections (such as Restylane®, Voluma®, or JUVÉDERM®) can help to maintain a youthful balance in facial structures.

These are just a few of the treatments that can help maintain the youthful, refreshed look after facelift surgery. If you have questions about facelift treatments or other options available at our practice, please don’t hesitate to contact us today.
